President Trump’s Executive Orders
The majority of the time we are focused on state-level issues, but I wanted to take a moment to express thankfulness to the Lord for several significant victories on the federal level.
On January 24, 2025, President Trump signed three executive orders protecting the unborn:
- An order reinstating the Hyde Amendment, a 49-year-old law that puts a stop to taxpayer-funded abortion in the US.
- An order reinstating the Mexico City Policy, which ends taxpayer-funded abortions overseas.
- An order to the Department of Justice to stop using the FACE Act to charge and imprison pro-life advocates. Additionally, President Trump pardoned 23 pro-lifers who had been charged and, in some cases, sentenced under the egregious law.
Since assuming office, President Trump has also signed the following executive orders:
- Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation, which “cuts off federal funding for the transgender industry, allows families harmed to sue, could institute new religious and conscience protections, and may open the door to criminal prosecution of any individual involved in certain transgender surgeries.”
- Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government, stating, “It is the policy of the United States to recognize two sexes, male and female. These sexes are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality.”
- Ending Radical Indoctrination in K-12 Schooling, which authorizes the development of an Ending Indoctrination Strategy to eliminate “Federal funding or support for illegal and discriminatory treatment and indoctrination in K-12 schools, including based on gender ideology and discriminatory equity ideology” and “protecting parental rights.”
You would be hard-pressed to find anyone who would have predicted a year ago that we would see executive orders like these coming from the Whitehouse. The good news is multiplied further when you consider that there are additional orders on a broader range of subjects that also support a biblical worldview. Praise the Lord!
Of course, our celebration is tempered by the fact that these are executive orders and not laws. Looking to the future, we need to pray for God to raise up more god-fearing legislators who will stand with courage and be salt and light in the law-making process in Washington, DC, as well as our statehouses.
